Like the roughly 1 billion other people watching the World Cup Final yesterday I was completely shocked when Zidane had his meltdown in the waning moments of overtime. There's no justifying Zidane's actions, but while reading various people's reactions to the head butt I discovered an interesting video showing exactly what kind of player Materazzi is. It's disappointing to see a cheap shot artist like that come out on top by pulling a great player down to his level. Sportsmanship took a beating yesterday.
So, what are your plans for the weekend?
It's actually shaping up to be a pretty busy weekend. At some point tomorrow I need to mow my lawn because it's way too long thanks to all the rain we've had lately. Before I get to that the Ferris Varsity has a summer tournament basketball game at 9AM. Then the US soccer team has their second match around noon and I want to catch it (even though Italy will probably kill them). Sunday we have a family Father's Day barbecue at our house (another reason to get the lawn mowed) and I may need to pick up some propane for the grill. Then the NBA finals are back on at 6PM. Should be a good weekend.
I had high hopes for today's World Cup game between the U.S. and the Czech Republic, but it only took 5 minutes for everything to go sour . The Czechs played really well, and the U.S. were just plain sloppy and ineffective in so many phases of the game. Disappointing.
I also caught the end of the next game from their group and Ghana looked pretty dangerous offensively even though they ended up losing to Italy 2-0. Italy is a must win game on Saturday now and the odds are looking pretty long to me at this point.
