Someone's writing a biography of your life (to date). What is the best/worst chapter of the book?
Submitted by Ross.
Worst chapter is probably middle school. The best chapter for drama/highs/lows is probably my mid to late 20s.
What's the best late-night TV talk show?
I tend to watch Leno the most. I favored Letterman during his first couple years at CBS, but than I suddenly got completely tired of him. I enjoy Conan a lot too, especially since he's closer to my generation, but I don't stay up that late as much since I've started biking and Houston has gotten older.
Today is Vox's first anniversary since the official launch. What's the best experience you've had on Vox in the past year?
It's hard to think of one specific thing. I just really like the fact that it gives MIcah, Kristen and me a place that we can share news, pictures and other random stuff that's going on with our extended Gilman family..
Have you figured out what your (or your kids') Halloween costume will be this year? What's it going to be?
Yep! We've been ready for over a month. Eawyn will be a witch and Houston is going to be a lion.
Who's the coolest culinary celebrity?
Giada of course! Mary usually watches Food Network in the afternoons (or at least she used to) so I used to catch the tail end of Everyday Italian when I got home from work.
Would you go on vacation by yourself, and if so where would you go?

If I had no family or job obligations and unlimited free time I would definitely be interested in thru-hiking the Pacific Coast Trail from Mexico all the way to Canada. In retrospect I kind of wish I had known about the trail and gotten the idea back when I was in college (unfortunately the web didn't really arrive until the year I graduated). That would have been totally doable over a summer with some saving, preparation and planning during the school year. And frankly, hiking the PCT is a far more worthwhile endeavor than most of the summer jobs I worked instead.
What time is your alarm clock set for? Do you use the snooze button?
6:30 AM. I often wake up a few minutes before it and turn it off, but I never hit snooze.
After all the recent season and series finales, what are you watching on TV these days?
I enjoyed watching Last Comic Standing last night and will probably continue to watch that when it's on, but the summer seems pretty barren so far. There just aren't too many other shows that interest me right now. The SciFi channel has really been letting me down lately with BSG on hiatus until next year and a pretty limited lineup. Painkiller Jane is just ridiculous for the anchor spot on Fridays- that show made me go bleh from the moment they started promoting it. My general Stargate and Sci-Fi channel enjoyment has waned considerably since they announced that SG-1 was cancelled after this season and moved BSG to Sundays. And Atlantis just hasn't been as compelling to me as it used to be. I watched a lot of Dresden files this past spring and ended up really liking it, but it looks like there won't be any more seasons.
How many TVs do you have in your house?
Let's see. Mitsubishi HDTV upstairs and two older Sharp conventional TVs downstairs.

My brother Micah is four years younger than me. When I was somewhere around 6 or 7 years old I convinced him to get inside a baby blue manual typewriter case (basically a medium sized plastic suitcase). My goal wasn't actually to torture my brother, but rather to carry the case out by the handle and then open it up to the surprise and delight of my parents and grandparents. Unfortunately it didn't work out that way at all.
Micah actually fit into the case, but he had to bend forward all the way at the waist and it was not a comfortable position at all. I got the case closed and latched with him inside as planned, but quite understandably he got upset and claustrophobic and tried to push it open from within. At this point I tried to let him out myself but it wouldn't open with him pushing and I started to get worried. I knew I was going to get into trouble, but luckily I was more concerned about getting him out of there and did the right thing: I got my dad to let him out. I don't remember if I got a significant punishment other than being yelled at/sternly spoken to, but I remember it wasn't very easy for my dad to get him out of the case either. Needless to say the whole thing wasn't one of my more well thought out ideas as a child and I still feel bad about it.
